Dealing With
Debt, Financial Stress
-
When people are dealing with mountains of
debt, they're much more likely to report health problems. Just worrying,
worrying, worrying, about where the next payment of this is going to
come from, can cause stress and make you sick. People who reported high
stress also were much more likely to have trouble concentrating and
sleeping and were more prone to getting upset for no good reason
Debt can be bad for your health. Financial stress is common if you are
forced into frugality because of a lost job, divorce, death in the
family, or being over your head in debt, etc. This can lead to feelings
of insecurity, fear, anxiety, anger, and, of course, depression.

How to Reduce Stress
Massage your shoulders and neck muscles. We store stress in the muscles of the upper back, shoulders, and neck. Learn how to release this tension by gently moving that area of the body. The movements don't have to be complicated. To loosen up the tightness
Walk. Go out for a walk and some fresh air. Walk briskly and throw your shoulders back as you move. Don't race. Hurrying may make you slouch forward unconsciously, creating tension in the curve of your shoulders. Throw your shoulders back, expand your chest area, and breathe deeply.
Practice relaxation techniques. Sit in a quiet spot and take off your shoes or any tight uncomfortable clothing, including eyeglasses. Close your eyes, uncross your legs, place your hands in your lap palms up, and let your head rest easily. (You also can lie down.) Start by tightening the muscles in your feet and toes and then relaxing them. Gradually work this tightening and relaxing pattern up through your legs, back, chest, and head, including your face.
