Dealing With
Debt, Financial Stress
-
When people are dealing with mountains of
debt, they're much more likely to report health problems. Just worrying,
worrying, worrying, about where the next payment of this is going to
come from, can cause stress and make you sick. People who reported high
stress also were much more likely to have trouble concentrating and
sleeping and were more prone to getting upset for no good reason
Debt can be bad for your health. Financial stress is common if you are
forced into frugality because of a lost job, divorce, death in the
family, or being over your head in debt, etc. This can lead to feelings
of insecurity, fear, anxiety, anger, and, of course, depression.

Financial Stress
Physical Effects of Debt: When asked about the physical effects of debt, four in ten people say they have trouble sleeping. The second most-oft-cited effect is sometimes finding it hard to concentrate,
reported by just over a quarter of credit card debt holders, followed by stomach aches and headaches, reported by about one in five.
Effects on Personal Relationships: Among those who do report having problems, the #1 problem, reported by one third, is
having fights with a significant other over money. Second on the list, reported by three in ten, is “When I’m worried about money, I don’t
want to go out.” Social life suffers for two in five, and one in ten say they’re reluctant to settle down before getting their debt under
control. A few say they worry that their partners won’t trust them with money.
Effects on Work Life: One in five say it’s hard
to concentrate when they’re worried about paying bills, and one in ten say they’ve spent time on the job working on their personal
finances or have received calls from creditors at work or have talked to co-workers about their finances.
