Dealing With
Debt, Financial Stress
-
When people are dealing with mountains of
debt, they're much more likely to report health problems. Just worrying,
worrying, worrying, about where the next payment of this is going to
come from, can cause stress and make you sick. People who reported high
stress also were much more likely to have trouble concentrating and
sleeping and were more prone to getting upset for no good reason
Debt can be bad for your health. Financial stress is common if you are
forced into frugality because of a lost job, divorce, death in the
family, or being over your head in debt, etc. This can lead to feelings
of insecurity, fear, anxiety, anger, and, of course, depression.

Dealing With Stress
Make Time for You
You are your own best weapon in defending yourself against stress and stress-related illness. Become a more active listener to the signals your body may be sending. Don't deny or ignore symptoms of stress. Slow down and take some leisure time for yourself.
Leisure time is a necessity, not a luxury. Take your favorite magazine into the bathroom, fill the tub with warm water, add several drops of lavender oil, climb in, and relax. The leisurely soak will give you the strength to do more later. Take an hour or half-hour to be by yourself each day. Many highly successful people have discovered that a key to keeping their minds sharp and their bodies healthy is to sit quietly and daydream a little each day.
The key is to plan for leisure time -- don't wait for free time to suddenly appear. The only way to create time for yourself is to take it away from some other activity. Personal time for refueling and staying healthy will never be available unless you plan for it purposefully. It's one of the most important things that you can do for yourself and your family.
Be realistic. If you feel overwhelmed by some activities (yours and/or your family’s), learn to say NO! Eliminate an activity that is not absolutely necessary. You may be taking on more responsibility than you can or should handle. If you meet resistance, give reasons why you’re making the changes.
